Electric car
The car is usually a slice, not a second house.
Efficiency is EPA combined electricity use. A sedan and a pickup are not the same number of solar panels. Switch cars in the playground and watch the count move.
The numbers come from the U.S. DOE/EPA Fuel Economy file. We only list electric cars a US shopper can buy new right now — this calendar year’s model year and last year’s leftover new inventory. Future EPA rows and older discontinued years stay out. Plug-in hybrids are out, because most of their miles can still be gasoline.
Miles per year (or per month) times Wh/mi is the extra kWh. Divide by what one 400 W solar panel makes at your sun. That’s “solar panels to push the car.”
Year-1 savings, payback, and the 25-year total already fold in the driving dollars — gas you stop buying, plus typical upkeep you no longer pay. There is no separate shop-work slider on the playground.
